Lovable Hearts Fabric Buckets

I made some Lovable Hearts Fabric Buckets! Did you know you can turn quilt blocks into something you can use every day? I used a special quilt block called Lovable Hearts to make a whole set of buckets! These aren’t just any buckets; they’re made from fabric and are perfect for holding things. You can use any quilt block you like to make these handy buckets. This is also a scrap friendly project. Yay!

Choosing Fabric and Cutting

First, I chose some really nice fabric and cut it into pieces. For the hearts, I used a variety of solids from this fabric bundle. For the background and interior, I used a lovely low volume fabric called Scissor Envy Hush Hush 2. The Lovable Hearts quilt block is cool because you can make it in six different sizes.

I decided to make a fabric bucket for each size of the block. Each side of the bucket is as big as the quilt block. I also cut pieces for the inside of the bucket so it looks just as good inside as outside. I used some scraps of batting to make the buckets stand up on their own. If you want your buckets to be really sturdy, you can use foam instead of batting.

Putting the Bucket Together

Next, I sewed the fabric pieces together. I used my Juki DX-4000 QVP Sewing Machine. I didn’t use special batting that sticks with heat, so I just sewed the fabric with the pretty sides facing each other and put batting on the back side.

Since the background and interior fabric was directional, I made sure all the pieces were sewed facing the right direction. After sewing the sides, I added the bottom piece. It was a bit tricky, but going slow helped a lot. I did the same steps for the inside of the bucket.

Finishing the Bucket

After sewing the outside and inside, it was time to put them together.

I turned the outside part right side out and kept the inside part inside out. Then, I put the inside into the outside part. I added the binding to the top (all the raw edges flush). I used sewing pins (but clips work too) to hold the top edges together. Then, I sewed around the top to keep everything in place. I gave the sewn binding a nice press with my Oliso Iron on my Ironmatik Ironing Board. I finished the binding with my machine, but you can always do hand binding if you prefer. For the smaller buckets, I sewed the binding by hand because it was easier.

The Final Look

In the end, the fabric buckets looked awesome!

I made all six sizes in just one sewing session. These Lovable Hearts Fabric Buckets are perfect for gifts, or I might keep the small ones near my sewing machine to hold little things. This project was really fun and easy. It shows how you can make something both pretty and useful out of quilt blocks.

I would love to see the fabric buckets you make! Share them in our community! Be sure to comment below and let me know what you think of this fun project!
