The 2023 Summer Quilt Block Club Quilt Retreat held at the Quilter’s Cabin in Brunswick, MO was a remarkable gathering of quilting enthusiasts from various regions. This cozy and updated private home provided the perfect setting for eight attendees to indulge in their passion for quilting. With comfortable accommodations, a well-equipped kitchen, inviting living areas, and a dedicated sewing space, the retreat offered an ideal environment for uninterrupted quilting sessions. Additionally, the charming front porch swing and a delightful fire pit in the backyard added a touch of relaxation to the retreat experience.
Quilters from Near and Far
The Quilt Retreat welcomed talented and passionate quilters from diverse locations. Attendees hailed from the Kansas City area, central Kansas, central Missouri, and even as far as Des Moines.
The gathering brought together a range of skill levels, from novices to seasoned experts. This diversity created a nurturing environment where participants could learn from one another, share their experiences, and draw inspiration from the creative energy in the room.
Projects and Learning Opportunities
The highlight of the Quilt Retreat was the group project centered around the Star Spangled Shield Mini Quilt Pattern and Fabric Kit. In addition to this collaborative endeavor, participants had the opportunity to expand their quilting skills through a lesson on Foundation Paper Piecing. They also received a demonstration on using the AccuQuilt cutting system to create stunning stars.
Furthermore, attendees brought their own projects, resulting in numerous finishes throughout the weekend. The retreat provided a nurturing space for quilters to refine their techniques and explore new ideas.

Moreover, participants had the opportunity to showcase their TV nostalgia knowledge on Saturday through a trivia game featuring iconic shows from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.
Culinary Delights
One of the highlights of the Quilt Block Club Retreats is the delectable cuisine provided for the participants. Nicole, the dedicated organizer, meticulously planned and organized the event. She ensured that participants could fully immerse themselves in quilting without worrying about chores. From gourmet quiche, a cherished (and delicious) family recipe of peach cobbler, to mouthwatering shrimp scampi.
The carefully crafted menu catered to the participants’ taste buds, providing them with a well-deserved break from cooking and cleaning.
