Step-by-Step Instructions:
Before you begin sewing, it’s important to cut your batting to the correct size. For this project, you’ll use the AccuQuilt GO! Complete Bowl Cozy Set. Whether you are making a small or large cozy, the process for sewing is the same. Simply use the appropriate die from the set to cut your batting. If you are cutting both sizes, you’ll need the GO! Big Electric Cutting System. For just the small cozy, the GO! Fabric Cutter will work perfectly.
Pre-Cut Your Batting
Using a pair of scissors, you will pre-cut batting squares. For the small Soup Bowl Cozy, you will pre-cut your batting the a little smaller than your cutting mat. You need (2) pieces of batting for each bowl cozy.

I used the Wrap ‘N’ Zap batting by Pellon. You want to make sure that you DO NOT use batting that has any type of metal (foil or aluminum). Many people use these bowl cozies in the microwave!
Stitch the Fabric

Begin by selecting coordinating fabrics for your cozy. I used leftover strips from a jelly roll, which worked beautifully. Lay one strip of fabric right side up on your square of batting, positioning it diagonally. Next, place a second strip right sides together on top of the first, aligning the long raw edges. Sew a ¼” seam along the aligned edge. After stitching, flip the top strip open to reveal the right side. Continue adding strips on either side of the diagonal strip, repeating the process until the entire square of batting is covered. For added texture, you can increase your stitch length and add crisscross diagonal stitching. You can even incorporate some decorative quilting for an extra touch of flair!
Use the AccuQuilt Cutting System
Place your prepared batting square on the appropriately sized AccuQuilt die. Next, position the cutting mat on top and run it through your AccuQuilt Cutting System. Repeat this process for both the interior and exterior pieces of the cozy.

Sew the Darts
Now that the fabric and batting are prepared, fold the bowl cozy in half (right sides together) so that the darts match up. Use wonder clips to keep everything aligned. Sew the darts closed, backstitching at the beginning and end for extra durability.

The darts give your cozy its bowl shape, so take care to sew them carefully. Repeat the dart-sewing process for the remaining sides of the cozy. Once the darts are sewn, you’ll notice the bowl shape starting to form. This is a good point to stop and check that everything is aligned properly.
Combine the Bowl Cozy Pieces
Now it’s time to layer the two bowl cozy pieces together. Place them right sides together and pin around the exterior edges, leaving a small opening for turning. Stitch around the edges, making sure to leave the gap for turning.

Turn the Cozy Right Side Out
Carefully turn the bowl cozy right side out. Use a chopstick or other pointed tool to gently press the seams out. This step ensures that your cozy looks neat and professional.

Close the Opening
To finish the project, fold the raw edges of the opening inward and pin in place. You can either top stitch around the entire edge to close the opening or hand stitch it closed using a whip stitch. I prefer to hand stitch for a more seamless finish, but the choice is yours.
