Hey there, fellow quilters! It’s time to get your sewing machines ready and dive into a fresh, exciting project – the Churn Chain QAL (Quilt-A-Long). This quilt pattern brings a modern flare to the classic charm of quilting, and we’re here to guide you through every step.

Introducing the Pattern

Dive into the Churn Chain Quilt-A-Long with confidence! Our quilt pattern breathes new life into the traditional churn dash block by pairing it with the simplicity of a nine-patch block, all while introducing a lively, modern twist. What really makes this quilt stand out is its dynamic arrangement and use of six different fabrics in diagonal lines, creating an eye-catching flow throughout the design. Plus, with a handy coloring page included in your digital bonuses, planning your quilt will be a breeze.

The Churn Chain quilt pattern is available to make in 4 sizes! For the QAL, we will be making the Throw size. This quilt is a fantastic project for advanced beginners – it’s all about having fun with piecing, without the stress of complex steps. And don’t worry, we’ve got a simple yet effective strategy to keep everything straightforward: label everything. This little trick will save you heaps of time and keep the process smooth.

But here’s the best part: you won’t be going at it alone. We’ll be virtually quilting together, step by step, ensuring we have ample time to enjoy the process and tackle each stage with ease. You will need to purchase the pattern to make this quilt. So, let’s embark on this quilting journey together and create something truly special!

The Fabrics

Benartex has partnered with us as the fabric sponsor, featuring the Dazzle Dots fabric collection by Christa Watson. The Dazzle Dots fabric collection by Christa Watson is an exceptional match for the Churn Chain quilt pattern from Sew Much Moore. The vibrant spectrum of colors, from warm reds to cool blues, along with the playful Snazzy Squares and Confetti dots, elevate the dynamic arrangement of the traditional churn dash and nine-patch blocks in the quilt. The rich, sizzling hues and contrasting grays of Dazzle Dots seamlessly complement the quilt’s modern twist, ensuring your creation will not only stand out but also shimmer with a lively personality. This pairing promises a quilt that’s as exciting to make as it is to behold, making it a perfect choice for quilters looking to infuse their projects with color and energy.

These fun prints are sure to inject some joy into your quilt, and we’ve made both the dark and light background options for you to see! This fabric is in stores now, or you can purchase directly from the designer herself!

will I be able to use my Accuquilt dies for the sew-a-long?

    1. Nicole Moore says:

The churn chain quilt pattern does not use AccuQuilt Dies. We are going to use the Shape Cutter Plus, by June Tailor – sold by AccuQuilt – to make quick work of cutting our fabric.

      1. Kathy Fitzhugh says:

II am disappointed that this is not set up for Accuquilt dies. I am puzzled why this was marketed to us without this information being prominent. I will figure out what dies to use and put the information on one of the Accuquilt Facebook pages. This feels like a bait-and-switch to me. I am thankful to be out only the cost of the pattern.

        1. Nicole Moore says:

          Dear Kathy,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns with me. I truly understand your disappointment upon realizing that the Churn Chain Quilt pattern doesn’t specifically accommodate AccuQuilt dies. Your feedback is invaluable, and I want to address your concerns directly.

The Churn Chain Quilt-A-Long and its patterns are indeed crafted with love and dedication by me, Nicole Moore. While AccuQuilt is a valued sponsor, their role is primarily in supporting the Quilt-A-Long through the supply of certain tools and accessories, not in the design or specifications of individual patterns. This distinction might not have been as clear as it should have been, and for that oversight, I sincerely apologize.

I can see how you might feel misled if the compatibility with AccuQuilt dies was a deciding factor for your participation. It was never my intention to create such confusion or to give an impression of a “bait-and-switch.” I aim for transparency and clarity in all my communications and offerings, and I regret any disappointment caused.

Regarding your plan to adapt the pattern for AccuQuilt dies and share it on a Facebook page, I respectfully ask you to reconsider. Sharing adaptations of copyrighted material affects not only the value and integrity of the original creation but also the community of creators and quilters who support each other’s original work. As fellow quilters, we thrive on creativity, respect, and mutual support. The actions we take can significantly impact our vibrant community, and I believe in fostering an environment where all creators’ rights are respected.

I want to assure you that I am here to support your quilting journey. Although this particular pattern may not have met your initial expectations, I do offer other patterns designed with AccuQuilt die users in mind, which I would be happy to share with you.

Kathy, I value your presence in our quilting community and would love to find a way to make this experience more positive for you. Your understanding and respect for the creative efforts behind each pattern mean the world to me and to our fellow quilters.

          Warmly,

          Nicole Moore

what AccuQuilt dies does the Churn Chain Quilt-A-Long use? I don’t see that info listed. I need to know it before I buy the pattern and commit to the project. It does look fun.

Due to arthritis in my hands and wrists I try to use my AccuQuilt cutter for all my quilting. I have the 8″ Qube. Will that work with your pattern? I would love to take part in the Quilt Along.

  4. Audrey Flock says:

Why on earth would you send this to people who have an Accuquilt machine and a bazzillion dies to use? Surely you can “translate” this pattern so that Accuquilt people can participate in the QAL!

    1. Nicole Moore says:

      Dear Audrey,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your thoughts with us. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and I want to ensure we address your concerns directly.

I understand you have questions about the use of AccuQuilt products in our upcoming Churn Chain Quilt Along (QAL). While AccuQuilt is a generous sponsor of our event, providing wonderful prizes like the June Tailor slotted ruler, a rotary cutter, and a cutting mat, this particular quilt pattern is designed to be most efficiently and effectively created using the June Tailor slotted ruler. This tool offers precision and ease that aligns with the specific techniques we’ll be exploring together during the QAL.

The decision to use the June Tailor slotted ruler, rather than adapting the pattern for AccuQuilt dies, is based on ensuring that all participants can follow along and achieve great results with the recommended method. It’s about embracing the diversity of quilting practices within our community and providing an experience that is both enriching and accessible to everyone, regardless of the cutting tools they have at home.

AccuQuilt’s support as a sponsor reflects our shared commitment to the quilting community and to making this event as inclusive and enjoyable as possible. The prizes they’ve contributed, which include June Tailor products now offered through the AccuQuilt website, are designed to enhance your quilting toolkit and experience.

While I understand this might be disappointing if you were hoping to use AccuQuilt dies specifically for this QAL, I encourage you to join us and discover the versatility and benefits of the June Tailor slotted ruler. Our goal is to ensure a fulfilling and fun experience for all participants, and I believe this event will offer valuable skills and techniques that can complement your existing quilting practice.

Thank you again for your feedback. It’s crucial in helping us make events like this better for everyone involved. Should you have any further questions or need support with the pattern, please feel free to reach out. I’m here to help and ensure you have a fantastic experience with our QAL.

      Warmest regards,

      Nicole

  5. Pierrette says:

Can we make this quilt without the ruler?

    1. Nicole Moore says:

That is a great question! You do not have to buy a special tool to make this quilt. The ruler that I will be demonstrating will help you finish making the quilt faster and help you cut accurately as well. All you need to make this quilt is the pattern, your fabric of choice and basic quilting supplies.

  6. Kathleen Williams says:

I can’t seem to find the cost for the fabrics needed.

    1. Nicole Moore says:

The cost of the fabric depends on what type of fabric you purchase. You don’t have to purchase a specific kit in order to participate. You can even dive into your own personal stash. We are featuring a kit from the Dazzle Dots fabric line by Christa Watson, for Benartex – but it is not required that you use this fabric. Just a suggestion (and a beautiful suggestion at that!).

  7. Are the prizes available to people who do not live in the USA? The project sounds like fun nevertheless.

    1. Nicole Moore says:

That’s a great question Laura! Some of our sponsors have the ability to ship internationally, while others do not.

  8. Do I have to quilt using your quilt kit?

    1. Nicole Moore says:

That’s a great question! You can use whatever fabric you want to make the Churn Chain Quilt. We have suggested kits, in case you are interested – but that is not a requirement! You will just need to register and participate by following along with the Churn Chain Pattern. Let me know if you have more questions. We are glad to help!

  9. Elizabeth says:

I work during the day and have a child’s school vacation over a couple of the weeks. Will the sessions be recorded?

    1. Nicole Moore says:

Hi Elizabeth – thanks so much for your question! All registered participants will receive a weekly email with links to articles that contain pictorial tips and tricks to help them along the way to complete their own Churn Chain Quilt.
This Churn Chain Quilt-A-Long is not an on-demand video course. If you need that option – please visit this page, choose the Video Course option and you will be all set!

Let me know if you have anymore question! Looking forward to start sewing together!

  10. Sherre Logan says:

I’m excited to join this QAL. I have only participated in a few before so it’s nice to spread my wings and try something different. I am in Canada, if I was to win one of the draws for the smaller items such as fabric, rulers, magic fabric care pack or even lamps, would those items be able to be shipped internationally?
    Thank you for this opportunity.
    Sherrè

    1. Nicole Moore says:

      Hi Sherrè,

I’m thrilled to hear about your enthusiasm for joining our Quilt Along (QAL)! It’s wonderful to have you spread your wings and dive into something new with us. Regarding your question about international shipping for the prizes, you’ll be happy to know that our QAL is indeed international. Many of our sponsors are equipped to ship items like fabric, rulers, and magic fabric care packs internationally. However, it’s important to note that not all prizes may be eligible for international shipping due to certain restrictions, like power adapter compatibility for lamps.

We select our winners randomly, focusing on participants who are not only registered but are also actively engaging in the swap. This ensures everyone has a fair chance to win, no matter where they’re located.

Thank you for reaching out with your question, and we’re excited to have you with us. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Happy quilting!

      Best,
      Nicole Moore

I am so excited to get started in the Quilt A Long. I am retired, have a puppy, and love to sew. I have made a lot of quilts, mostly for my grandchildren. I have the Churn template for my Go! so I may get to use it.

  13. Elizabeth M Veilleux says:

I agree about being able to use my Accuquilt system to be able to join in a the Churn Chain Quilt A Long

    Elizabeth

    1. Nicole Moore says:

I think it would be fun to have a Quilt along that utilizes only acquit dies. Stay tuned in my newsletter, and maybe that will happen someday.

  14. I can’t afford nor have the room for the Accuquilt machine and all the dies one must purchase, so I am thankful this is new pattern and QAL don’t require it.

    1. Nicole Moore says:

The AccuQuilt system does require and investment and real estate in your sewing space.
