Organize with Clips
When it comes to quilting, being organized is a total lifesaver. And my little trick for staying on top of things? Labeled clips! Not only are they super functional, but they also add a fun personal touch to my quilting process. I just love to organize with clips!
What I use to Organize with Clips
I use a label maker to label my clips with letters, numbers, or a combination of both. This way, I can easily identify and sort my quilt blocks or pieces. And the best part? I keep them all handy on rulers, so I always know where they are when I need them.

One of the best things about being able to organize with clips is that they’re reusable. I can easily peel off the labels and add new ones, which is perfect for multiple projects. This is a huge improvement from my old method of using sticky notes. I used to rely on them to label my blocks, but they always fell off and got lost. Talk about frustrating!
What I tried in the past…
In the past, I also used to pin labels onto my blocks, but that was a total hassle. Not only did it take up more time, but it also added unnecessary holes to my fabric. Using labeled clips eliminates the need for pins and sticky notes and saves me time and hassle.
It might take a little extra time to label all of your clips, but enlisting the help of your teenagers can make the process a breeze. They really liked using the label maker! Plus, it’s a great way for them to earn a few extra bucks while helping you out. We call that ‘hamburger money’. Ha!
All in all, using labeled clips is a simple and effective way to stay organized when making a quilt. Not only do they save time and hassle, but they also add a fun personal touch to the quilting process. Give them a try and see for yourself!

This is one of those SO clever and SO easy tricks that I’m slapping my forehead and asking why I didn’t think of it! It’s genius!! Thank you for sharing! I’m just tackling my first quilt with a more-than-totally-basic design, and I’m already frustrated with the post-it notes. This will make this a lot less overwhelming!

So much fun! I have always gone the sticky note route, or sandwich bags for smaller pieces. This looks so much neater, and I don’t have to wait until binding to use my beautiful clips. What a great idea. Thanks!
Great suggestion on the clips. For those without a label maker I purchased a set of similar stickers from GEDesigns as well as an assortment of different sized clips. Will supplement them with your suggestion. Thanks again!

Great idea, I don’t have a good space for a large design wall, so this will be very helpful. Do you have any suggestions for labeling the clips to help identify which way the blocks in my quilt are turned? I’m putting together a queen size, with identical blocks, and the blocks will be turned different ways to make the overall pattern.
You might consider drawing an arrow on your clip or make another label on your clip with an direction indication

I love this idea! I have used pins with stickies. Just stickies. Numbered pins. I love binding clips but never thought of them for this use. Breaking out my label maker today! Thank you. Love your emails!
I just rite 1A, 1B, etc on blue painter’s tape to label my clips. Not as neat, but poabably faster than the label maker.
That works too!
GE Designs sells sheets of reusable stickers for those clips.

Love this idea! I use small labels and write the letter on them and stick them on the fabric pieces. When done I put the label back on the label sheet but they do lose their sticky and I need to make more. This idea is perfect. Thank you!! 😊😊

I’m interested in what process you use for the lettering or numbering system in identifying the pieces.
