Dresden Plate Quilt Block

The Dresden Plate quilt pattern was one of the most popular quilts made during the 1920s and 30s. It was first published in the 20s but not always under the name Dresden Plate. … This block is made with fabric sewn in a series of radiating “petals” with flat sides.

The Dresden Plate Quilt Block is a fun and easy block to make with either pre-cut squares or even using your own fabric scraps! Let me show you how!

For this quilt block, I cut my fabric pieces into these petals (or blades), sewed the top of the blades to create the point, and then joined them together.  Then I created and adhered a middle piece.  Finally, I will either hand appliqué or machine appliqué the plate onto the background fabric.
